Every enterprise environment I’ve walked into eventually surfaces the same pattern: a small number of brilliant individuals holding the entire system together with tribal knowledge, manual runbooks, and midnight fixes that earn applause but quietly compound risk.

Platform engineering rejects that model. It treats the platform itself as a product with paved roads, golden paths, and explicit contracts between platform teams and the product teams that consume them.
